“I love my country and I love my job and helping people in need. But I was forced to leave my post and my home country because the working conditions were not there… And I am absolutely not surprised to see several other nurses and managers leaving Morocco to come to Canada,” said Hafssa, a Moroccan Nurse who has worked in Temara for ten years, in a video shared on Facebook.
And to add: “We have received letters from the Order of Nurses of Canada to welcome these nurses, to help and accompany them, especially on a social level (help with paying rent, etc.) to improve their lives begin. Others will surely follow […] When a nurse starts working in Canada, she knows exactly what she has to do, she knows her limitations, which are well defined. He knows where the skills of a registered nurse/assistant begin and where they end. No one may exceed their scope of action and the tasks assigned to them.”

About 1,000 nurses of different nationalities come to Canada every month, says Hafssa, adding that last October more than 30 Moroccan nurses arrived in Canada, where working conditions are more favorable. “Every hour worked is paid here. In Morocco you work more than the legally prescribed working hours and you don’t get paid… Here you work 15 minutes more, you write it down at the till, you get paid at the end. It’s that simple,” explains the young nurse, who now lives and works in Quebec.
The compulsory overtime hours (TSO) in force in this province allows the nurse to earn more money. “An hour of work costs $23. If you add another mandatory shift, which is TSO, you get paid double, or $46 an hour, which is motivating for a large category of nurses. The final salary enables a good standard of living, in addition to good social security,” she explains and complains, “In Morocco nothing motivates you to stay and work. Even if you have the will and want to serve your country, there are many disadvantages…”
