The Heritage Classic returns to Edmonton

The next edition of the Heritage Classic takes place in Edmonton on October 29 when the Oilers and Calgary Flames meet at Commonwealth Stadium. It will take place 20 years after the very first with the Montreal Canadiens.

This was announced by the National Hockey League (NHL) late Saturday evening.

This will be the seventh Heritage Classic, Canada’s counterpart to the Winter Classic. Calgary (2011), Vancouver (2014), Winnipeg (2016), Regina (2019), and Hamilton (2022) have also hosted NHL teams in away games.

Overall, this meetup will be the 38th game to be hosted by Bettman Outdoor Circuit. In the very first tournament in 2003, the Habs defeated the Oilers 4-3 despite the freezing cold thanks to doubles in Richard Zednik and Yanic Perreault.

“Playing an away game in Edmonton at Commonwealth Stadium to face Calgary on the 20th anniversary of the year [premier]super special,” responded Connor McDavid, according to the official NHL website.

“It’s going to be fun,” said Flames forward Elias Lindholm. I was part of a game against Winnipeg and also played one in Sweden. It’s always fun going back to your roots and being outside and stuff. It’s always nice when you play Edmonton too. We are excited.”

TVA Sports will broadcast the event.
