Paul St-Pierre Plamondon and Charles III
We can say of the new leader of the Parti Québécois that he remains true to his principles. No question for Paul St-Pierre Plamondon and the other two elected members of his party, King Charles III. taking an oath, THE condition for entering the National Assembly. The PSPP never backed down, but instead put pressure on other parties to sever this connection with the monarchy. On December 9th, this major irritant was finally eliminated in less than 15 minutes. Minister Jean-François Roberge’s Bill 4, adopted unanimously, therefore makes the oath of allegiance to the British sovereign optional. MPs can now take an oath to the people of Quebec, to which the three PQ MPs pledged, finally being greeted by their peers at the Salon Bleu on January 31.

Dominique Anglade and Marie Claude Nichols
Ah, this one parties of the family turning to the hamster wheel! Over the years, the Parti Québécois had gotten used to quarreling in public places. But this year, it was the Liberal family that tore itself apart for a fairly mundane reason. The previous chairman, Dominique Anglade, offered the post of 3rd chairman to the deputy, Frantz Benjamine Vice-President of the National Assembly, reserved for the official opposition, which angered MP Marie-Claude Nichols, who wanted that post and nothing else. The party threw her out of the caucus… before doing any effort to convince her to come back. This leadership crisis has Mr.me Anglade resigns without Mme Nichols rejoins the ranks. A lose-lose result. Expect a long headache for the PLQ after their historic run in the last election.

Luis Miranda and Hocine Ouendi
If you doubt the meaning of the word “condescension”, watch the video in which the mayor of the district of Anjou, Luis Miranda, responds to Hocine Ouendi. you will understand This 16-year-old young man politely came to ask the mayor during a city council meeting to reopen the soccer fields in his neighborhood. “At 15 I don’t even have a business to talk to him about,” the mayor said abruptly, saying it was the young man’s parents who should have spoken to him. This unfortunate reaction was the subject of a reprimand from the municipal council and a complaint to the Commission for Persons and Children’s Drones. Not strong.

Simon Jolin-Barrette and Lucie Rondeau
We can’t say their relationship has warmed up in 2022. The Attorney General and the Chief Justice of the Quebec Court of Justice are still arguing about almost everything: number of judges to be hired, number of sitting days, bilingualism… The only way out of this unhealthy situation that is helping absolutely no one, let alone ours at the breaking point justice? The possible resignation of Judge Rondeau in October 2023. Until then, unless a miracle happens, we don’t see how we’re going to reconcile these two strong minds. We’d send them to a judge for arbitration, but they’re overwhelmed…

Justin Trudeau and Xi Jinping
No formal meeting between Justin Trudeau and Xi Jinping was scheduled at the G20 summit in Indonesia last November. And when the two men chatted casually… it didn’t go down well. The Canadian prime minister initially vowed for Beijing to interfere in the Canadian elections. Then, the next day, he was arrested by the Chinese President, who reproached him. “Everything we talked about leaked to the media and that’s not appropriate,” Xi Jinping said, before Justin Trudeau launched the defense of “free, open and frank dialogue.” The differences between our two countries are now evident. And they’re unlikely to let up anytime soon, so don’t plan an official meeting between the two politicians any time soon.

Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis
Donald Trump may not have a happy holiday this year. Polls released in December show that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is currently more popular than him among Republican nominees for the White House and party voters. Oh, it’s way too early to predict! But those polls could certainly make Ron DeSantis jump into the arena. As for Donald Trump, his campaign launch last November was attacked and denigrated. And since then he’s multiplied the missteps. The unveiling with much fanfare of a series of digital maps in mid-December was ridiculous. So much so that even among Republicans, many don’t give much of their skin. But that’s exactly what happened six years ago…before he finally took over the White House!
