“I thought I was going to die” – Steve Bégin

The storm currently raging in Quebec brings back bad memories for Steve Bégin.

One night, just beginning his pro career in the American League, the former Montreal Canadiens forward thought he was about to experience his final moments on earth.

“There was a big storm and we got on small planes,” Bégin said in his column on the show on Friday The blue bag at noon. Finally we take off. We were in Saint John of Newfoundland leaving for New Brunswick. I thought I was going to die.”

And he wasn’t the only one fearing the worst.

“Boys cried on the plane,” he continued. It was sad. In the end we landed safely.”

The end of gifts after Christmas?

In addition, Bégin spoke to the Habs about the fate of certain veterans after the holidays.

If Joel Armia, Evgenii Dadonov and Co. don’t shine against the Dallas Stars on Friday night, he says they could be in trouble.

“We wonder why a youngster like Guhle or Xhekaj doesn’t have more responsibility for the power play. Well, the real season starts after the holidays. Santa is coming tonight and the boys who don’t take their chance will get hurt,” the former support player warned.
