The Montreal Canadiens were leading 2-0. He was heading home for the Christmas break with a big grin on his face. Then he sinned by indiscipline.

From the end of the second frame, the Stars used three of their five power plays to turn things around and defeat the Canadiens 4-2 at American Airlines Center last night.

Roope Hintz with a brace and Wyatt Johnston defeated Jake Allen while a Habs player was in the penalty box. Rising Stars star Jason Robertson was complicit in each of Hintz’s goals.

“We played a good match five against five. Unfortunately we shot ourselves in the foot with too many penalties,” argued Jake Evans.

To stimulate his attack, Martin St-Louis had planned several modifications to his offensive units. For the first time of the season, the Canadian’s head coach had separated the dynamic duo: Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki.

We can’t blame the Canadiens coach for trying to find solutions. After all, that’s why Kent Hughes pays him a lot of money. Especially since we had noticed a certain slowdown in the production of the captain.

Still, pairing him with Jonathan Drouin and Joel Armia seemed like a bold gamble. In addition, this decision quickly aroused the anger of followers on social networks. And the results have been tentative, to say the least.

The 4th trio shines

Curiously, the fourth unit was the most productive. Evans used that stint in Texas to score his first goal of the season. A gem he crafted by serving up a clever feint to Jake Oettinger after sneaking in between the Defenders of the Stars.

Finally, to the power play

With Mason Marchment remaining two seconds in the box, Evans’ goal was scored on the power play. It was just the second goal of the Habs’ massive attack in 31 chances. And to think that he was registered by a player who, in principle, does not even develop on this unit.

Michael Pezzetta, back in the line-up replacing Evgenii Dadonov, had the first two-point game of his career. After being partly responsible for Evans’ goal, he surprised even Oettinger with a great shot from the wrists.

“I was happy with my game. Until I get this stupid penalty,” said Pezzetta, who was in jail for the winning goal.
