Canada without mercy for Switzerland in Moncton

Junior Team Canada’s star players showed they were ready on Monday night at the Center Avenir in Moncton. In a preparatory game for the Junior World Championship, the Maple Leaf made short work of the Swiss and won 6-0.

And it was the big Canadian guns that led the charge. Fourth pick from the last NHL auction, Shane Wright, scored two goals and had one assist. This summer’s draft pick, Connor Bedard, has three assists.

The QMJHL players didn’t miss out either, with Sherbrooke Phoenix’s Josh Roy scoring and an assist, as did Quebec Remparts’ Nathan Gaucher. Newfoundland Zach Dean of the Gatineau Olympiques was credited with two assists.

Brennan Othmann and veteran defender Olen Zellweger scored the other goals for the side led by Dennis Williams.

Canadian goalkeeper Thomas Milic blocked 19 shots.

Canada will play two more pre-season games this week, against Slovakia in Moncton on Wednesday and against Finland in Halifax on Friday.

The Canadian formation will battle the Czech Republic for their 20th gold medal in history at this championship on Monday 26 December.

Notably, Halifax will host all of the tournament’s Canadian games, as well as the semifinals and final (January 5).

For his part, Moncton will notably present the matches between the USA, Finland and Slovakia, as well as two quarter-finals.
