Martin St-Louis wants his team to be a powerhouse like the Tampa Bay Lightning.
At least that’s what Renaud Lavoie said during his segment with Jean-Charles Lajoie on Saturday.
“He’s looking at Jon Cooper’s cast right now and he thinks that’s his standard. I remember having several conversations with Martin since he was with the Canadiens and he always told me that he was looking at the Lightning and that he wanted a team like the Lightning. We don’t know how long it will take. There is a process.”
The TVA sportswriter even believes the Canadians’ head coach could achieve his goal during his tenure.
“How will players adapt to what is being asked of them? What happens if we trade key players by the end of the season? It’s not easy to project with, but I’m almost certain we’re very likely to see it in the reign of Martin St-Louis.
Renaud Lavoie adds that St-Louis has had a positive influence on many players, including Jonathan Drouin.
“Jonathan Drouin is incredible on the power play. Since returning to the game, he has been one of the Canadians’ best players. The manager likes what he’s seeing from Jonathan Drouin, and for good reason. Look at what he’s doing with the puck, especially on the power play, it’s exceptional. Jonathan Drouin is currently playing hockey with a completely clear mind. It hasn’t happened in a long time. I think it’s great to play under Martin St-Louis.”
