The Montreal Canadiens will be without the services of veteran defenseman David Savard against the Vancouver Canucks on Monday night.

Martin St-Louis’ men, who were victorious on Thursday at the expense of the Calgary Flames and lost their flag to the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday, will look to find their way to victory without their defensive mainstay.

“David Savard played great minutes. It’s a big loss,” ex-coach Michel Therrien suggested.

With Savard struggling with an upper body injury that is being reassessed daily, is this an opportunity for driver Martin St-Louis to restore confidence in his young guards?

“Since the rotation of rookie defenders was introduced, I have less confidence in them. However, it must be said that it is entirely understandable.

“Earlier in the season, Jordan Harris and Arber Xhekaj progressed with a lot of confidence because the context allowed for more mistakes,” the statement continued Coach.

“I lived the rotation system. Over the years I’ve noticed how much it affects players’ confidence. Those are obstacles they have to face.”

“Sometimes establishing yourself in the National Hockey League (NHL) is part of it, even if it’s not ideal.”

Indiscipline hurt

Indiscipline sank the CH during their last duel. The Habs came up against the Oilers three times by a two-man deficit in just the first half of the second period.

“If I lost a game due to indiscipline, it came and got me.”

“If you give chances to players in the temple of Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, you shoot yourself in the foot.”
