It’s a bad start for Alex Galchenyuk

If forward Alex Galchenyuk wants to restart his National Hockey League (NHL) career, he’d better find his touch at the net and play more solidly, which he hasn’t been able to do since arriving with the Colorado Avalanche.

The former Montreal Canadiens, who signed a one-year deal a week ago, are struggling to find solutions. He has played three games with the Avs so far and kept himself in check. His -3 differential also speaks to his weaknesses on defense after being on the ice at 1:42 p.m. in Tuesday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets. Galchenyuk was used just 6:31 against the Buffalo Sabers on Thursday and just over 10 minutes at home with the Boston Bruins two days later.

The 28-year veteran had some good times in the American League earlier this season. With the Colorado Eagles, he collected seven points in as many tackles. On the other hand, he has a much harder time in the NHL, where he was satisfied with 21 points in 60 games with the Arizona Coyotes in 2021/22. Those stats are a far cry from his best performance of 2015-2016 when he had 30 goals and 56 points with the Habs.

The Avalanche was scheduled to visit the Philadelphia Flyers that evening.
