Ontario Minister of Communities and Housing Steve Clark on Wednesday dismissed allegations that he gave real estate developers information before announcing the Greenbelt law.
The statement follows Tuesday’s refusal to respond to reporters on the same issue.
Green Party leader Mike Schreiner earlier this week called on the integrity officer to investigate whether Secretary Clark or Premier Ford breached ethics rules to further private interests.
The minister earlier this month proposed removing land from 15 green belt areas, despite his own and Doug Ford’s promises not to touch them.
Several media outlets have suggested that some major developers who are also donors to the Progressive Conservative Party have been buying land in the Greenbelt in recent years, land that was not buildable. One of them was only bought last September.
During Question Time, the minister said he looked forward to being questioned by the Ethics Commissioner and hearing the apologies from the New Democratic Party. That’s how the party described it suspicious
the government’s intentions in this matter.
