Last suspect arrested in Canadian businessman’s murder 13 years later

PHUKET – The latest suspect wanted for his involvement in the murder of a Canadian businessman in Phuket was arrested on Sunday October 30 after 13 years on the run in Hua Hin, Prachuap Khiri Khan province.

Samran Seemek, 39, was wanted by Phuket Provincial Court for murder, according to the March 5, 2009 arrest warrant.

Canadian Francis Alex Degioanni, 34, owner of Panorama Condominium in Kathu, was shot dead at his home in Patong on February 19, 2009, according to authorities. Initial investigations revealed that Degioanni was in conflict with a Singapore businessman.

The latter had contacted a Thai woman to hire henchmen. Five of the six suspects, including the businessman and four thugs, had been arrested in 2009, leaving only Samran, who was responsible for finding housing for the thugs and driving a scooter for them.

The investigation revealed that the youngest suspect was quietly living with a childhood friend in Hin Lek Fai subdistrict of Hua Hin. The officers asked the Hua Hin Provincial Court for permission to arrest me before breaking into the suspect’s home to arrest me.

Samran has denied the allegations against him. He was taken to Patong Police Station for further questioning.
