The Sherbrooke Phoenix capitalized on the brave performance of forward Cole Huckins, who scored a hat-trick on Saturday at the Palais des Sports Léopold-Drolet to defeat Drummondville Voltigeurs 6-3.

Huckins, a third-round pick (77th overall) by the Calgary Flames in 2021, took just 77 seconds to open his counterattack. In doing so, he gave his team a two-goal advantage as Tyson Hinds scored in the 36th second of the game.

Huckins returned on the power play shortly after, beating goaltender Jacob Goobie again with just four minutes remaining in the game. The bouncer also saw his working day shortened because he left his seat after giving up three times in seven throws.

This change seemed to shake the visitors, who scored once before the end of the first period, a second time in the second period and then a third time from the opening seconds of the final period to equalize. Sam Oliver was instrumental in this comeback, hitting the bull’s eye twice and setting up Jérémy Lapointe’s success.

Justin Gill interrupted the Voltigeurs’ celebration at this point and scored the decisive goal. David Spacek on the power play and Huckins, who completed his hat-trick in an empty net, had the other goals.

Belgrade in the right place

At Shawinigan, Thomas Belgarde scored both goals for the Victoriaville Tigres in a narrow 2-1 win over the Cataractes.

Placed well to the right of goalkeeper Antoine Coulombe in the power play of the first period, the left winger blocked Pier-Olivier Roy’s shot from the blue line with his skate. It was a similar story in the second half as Belgarde blocked another shot from the defender to double his team’s lead.

The Cataractes woke up in the third engagement. Jordan Tourigny closed the gap with a pinpoint shot to the front. Nathan Darveau gave nothing, the Tigres goalkeeper booked the win thanks to 23 saves.

Successful time in Halifax

At the Scotiabank Centre, the Halifax Mooseheads found five goals in the second period to defeat the Saint John Sea Dogs 5-0.

The local hero gave everything in the 20 minutes and shot 19 times on goal defended by Ventsislav Shingarov. Cameron Whynot opened the valves with his second goal of the year, then Brady Schultz rattled the ropes twice. Jack Martin and Evan Boucher were the other scorers for the Mooseheads.

The poor Sea Dogs have just five wins in 19 games this season, earning them bottom spot in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
