For the second time in as many rounds this season in Grand Prix figure skating, Marjorie Lajoie and Zachary Lagha danced towards the podium. They combined elegance and synchronicity to take the bronze medal in Sheffield, Great Britain on Sunday.
Two weeks after finishing third in front of the Canadian fans at the Mississauga Grand Prix, the Quebecers wanted to do even more. And they didn’t miss their chance.
With a harvest of 81.09 points, good for third provisional rank at the end of Saturday’s rhythmic dance, Lajoie and Lagha maintained their rank less than 24 hours later in the free dance.
Their second performance of the weekend earned them a score of 117.86 and finished the event in third place with a total of 198.95 points.
“We are very happy with our four appearances since the start of the season! There are still small mistakes here and there, but nothing too costly in the end. We are very satisfied with our results so far”, Lajoie commented on the victory of the Italian duo Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri at the end of the competition.
They scored a total of 213.74 points, taking first place ahead of Britain’s Lilah Fear and Silver medalist Lewis Gibson with a total of 205.56.
Two other Canadian couples were also ice dancing on the Sheffield side, starting with Alicia Fabbri and Paul Ayer. The Quebecers, who presented their freestyle for the first time in the Grand Prix, finished eighth (165.78). British Columbians Haley Sales and Nikolas Wamsteeker finished ninth with 163.69 points.
The next Grand Prix of the figure skating season will take place this weekend in Sapporo, Japan, where the traditional NHK Trophy will be held. Dancers Laurence Fournier Beaudry and Nikolaj Sorensen, who won silver at this year’s French Grand Prix, will be in attendance.
