Whether or not Republicans win the United States midterm elections will not affect bilateral ties with Canada, and Ottawa will maintain “strong support” for Ukraine no matter what.
When asked about these midterm elections on Tuesday, Canadian Deputy Prime Minister Chrystia Freeland declined to express her inclination, recalling that these are American, not Canadian, elections.
She pointed out that Canada has always known how to work with its powerful neighbor, be it the president, senate, states, corporations or others.
And while Ukrainian officials fear a Republican election will result in a drop in US aid to their country, the deputy prime minister called the situation hypothetical.
However, she assured that Canada’s attitude towards Ukraine would not change and would continue to provide full support.
