A Quebecer among Canada’s Players of the Month

Quebec’s Évelyne Viens was named Canada Soccer’s October Player of the Month alongside Stephen Eustaquio on Tuesday.

Viens was Canada’s top-performing player in both October internationals in Europe. During this time she helped Canada triumph in two international duels.

“Viens came on as a substitute in the 2-0 win against Argentina and forced an Argentine own goal with her attacking work. She also started Canada’s 4-0 win against Morocco, scoring one goal and providing the assist for Jessie Fleming’s first goal of the game.

At her club Kristianstads DFF, she scored two more goals in four games in Damallsvenskan, Sweden’s top women’s league,” Canada Soccer said in a statement.

“[Stephen Eustaquio et Évelyne Viens] will play for Canada in November as both national teams continue their preparations for the FIFA World Cup in Qatar [à compter de 23 novembre] and the Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand in 2024,” the association added.

The Quebecer and her team-mates meet Brazil in two international friendlies on November 11 and 15.

Stephen Eustaquio is now the second Canadian midfielder, after Atiba Hutchinson, to start every group stage game for his club in a UEFA Champions League season. He helped FC Porto win three games in a row in the Champions League group stage. He scored his first goal of his UEFA Champions League career in a 4-0 win over Club Brugge KVt.
