The Trois-Rivières Lions are still looking for a first home win as the school club Montreal Canadiens of the ECHL were defeated 6-3 by Worcester Railers at the Colisee Videotron on Wednesday night.

Eric Bélanger’s side have just one win in four games in 2022-2023. He will find it difficult to deal with his supporters as his next four duels will be played from the comfort of his home.

Despite these absences, the power play was particularly effective for the Lions, who scored all three goals under the circumstances thanks to just four small Railers penalties.

Anthony Beauregard opened the scoring in the middle of the first period. The forward cleared a lane to the left of goalkeeper Ken Appleby and his hard shot landed in the top half.

However, the Lions, whose net was tended by CH Joe Vrbetic, conceded three unanswered goals. Reece Newkirk, Steve Jandric and former Ottawa Senator Bobby Butler took turns outsmarting the giant bouncer.

Butler added the insurance goal early in the third section at the expense of Philippe Desrosiers. Vrbetic was knocked out of the game after conceding four goals in just 15 shots.

Colin Bilek closed the gap for Trois-Rivières in the second period, from the same spot as Beauregard but with a precise wrist shot. William Leblanc also scored in the third period.

Captain Cédric Montminy served the second of his five games suspension for leaving his team’s bench during a scrum.

Earlier today, the Laval Rocket received forward Riley McKay from the Rockford IceHogs, who played four games with them in 2021-2022. The 23-year-old player, who was sidelined in two games in the ECHL with the Indy Fuel, will join the ranks of the Lions.
