The lower house on Monday passed a motion to send that clear message to the Kremlin as the Kremlin continues these consultations in the occupied Ukrainian territories. According to several media reports in recent days, referendums are sometimes held at gunpoint.
The House of Commons not only “strongly condemns the mock referendums being held in the Russian-occupied territories of Ukraine,” but “declares that it does not and never will recognize the legitimacy of these referenda,” the text of the unanimous statement said accepted application.
It also urges the Canadian government to “continue to support Ukraine until the entire territory of Ukraine is again under the sovereign control of the Government of Ukraine”, including through military, financial and humanitarian assistance.
The motion, tabled by Liberal MP Yvan Baker, comes in line with recent condemnations by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Foreign Secretary Mélanie Joly.
Another military plane
Earlier in the day, the MoD announced the addition of a third CC-130J Hercules aircraft for cargo delivery operations to be conducted from a center in Prestwick, Scotland.
Use of this operations center will allow the Royal Canadian Air Force to “receive even more military assistance to Ukraine,” Defense Minister Anita Anand said in a press release.
There are also assistants for maintenance, goods transport and administration.
