ALERT – Hurricane Fiona approaching Environment Canada has issued weather warnings – news

Hurricane Fiona approaches Quebec Environment Canada has issued weather warnings for several regions east of the province.

HURRICANE ALERT IN EFFECT

Environment Canada forecasts include gale force winds of 100 gusts to 140 km/h over exposed areas, but 140 gusts to 160 km/h on the coast (Category 1 upper limit) and a wave of 1.8 to 2.4 m and dangerous Waves of 11 to 15 m associated with Hurricane Fiona.

This alert applies to the region at the heart of Hurricane/Severe Post-Tropical Storm Fiona. Over some areas, such as eastern Cape Breton and southwestern Newfoundland, east of the eye of the system, winds are likely to be gusty near the threshold of category two hurricane strength, 160 km/h. Winds from the northwest over Prince Edward Island and parts of northern Nova Scotia are much colder; they could reach speeds of up to 140 or 150 km/h.
