Team USA continued their absolute dominance of the Presidents Cup on the second day of action on Friday in North Carolina. Thanks to a harvest of three wins and two draws, they took an 8-2 lead against the international squad.

That day on the course at Quail Hollow Golf Club, where the four-ball, best-ball format was favored, Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas started the American harvest by beating Adam Scott and Cam David by two flags 17 holes.

Thomas was particularly effective at observing the winners at the fourth and fifth flags, as well as giving his team a three-hole lead at the 15th flag, giving his rivals no room to maneuver. David and Scott first got out of trouble on the 16th but were unable to repeat their exploits thereafter.

For their part, Canadians Corey Conners and Taylor Pendrith were paired for the international team but lost by pennant to Max Homa and Billy Horschel. The Maple Leaf officials were two points down at halftime and tied the game with birdies on the 11th and 13th flags, but a birdie by Homa on the 17th put the difference in the Americans’ favour.

Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele got the other win for the Americans, who held a three-hole lead over Hideki Matsuyama and Tom Kim after crossing the 16th green.

Sam Burns and Scottie Scheffler again drew against Sungjae Im and Sebastian Munoz, as did Kevin Kisner and Cameron Young against Mito Pereira and Christiaan Bezuidenhout.

On the third day, Saturday, two team meetings will take place. The first in the morning will be played in alternative shots mode, while the afternoon session will be played in four-ball, best ball format.
