François will deliver a speech there that will mark the beginning of his process of seeking forgiveness for the abuse committed against around 150,000 Aboriginal children between 1831 and 1996. With 25 boarding schools, Alberta is the Canadian territory hardest hit by these facilities, which are run by the Catholic Church at the request of the Canadian government.

5 p.m. (1 hour in Paris). Francis will take part in the pilgrimage to Lac Sainte-Anne, where he will celebrate the Liturgy of the Word and preach a homily. This step is highly symbolic because every year tens of thousands of indigenous people from Canada and the United States flock to this place, which they consider sacred, on this date, which marks the feast of the Mother of the Virgin Mary.

François will celebrate Mass at the Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré National Shrine, one of the oldest and most popular pilgrimage sites in North America, attracting more than a million visitors annually (including annual indigenous pilgrimages). The organizers expect 10,000 to 15,000 participants.
5:15 p.m. (11:15 p.m. in Paris). Vespers with bishops, priests, deacons, consecrated persons, seminarians and chaplains in the Basilica-Cathedral of Notre-Dame de Quebec.

9 a.m. (3 p.m. in Paris). In a private capacity in the Archdiocese of Quebec, François will meet with members of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), as he does on each of his visits abroad.
10:45 a.m. (4:45 p.m. Paris). The Pope will meet a delegation of natives in the Archdiocese of Quebec present in Quebec. He will give a greeting there.
12:45 p.m. (6:45 p.m. Paris). Depart by plane from Quebec City International Airport to Iqaluit, the capital of the Territory of Nunavut in northeastern Canada. With a population of 8,000, including 3,900 Inuit, Iqaluit, whose Inuktitut name means ‘place full of fish’, is the territory’s largest city.
The city was established near a US military base to accommodate military aircraft coming and going from Europe during World War II.
