After four games, Arber Xhekaj’s little brother Florian was still looking for his first professional goal. He broke the stalemate Friday night in Laval with the Rocket’s 4-3 win over the Utica Comets.
The 20-year-old striker broke the ice with a brilliant one-timer in the third period. In the sequence he was well served by Riley Kidney. Luke Tuch was also an accomplice.
The bad news for the Rocket, however, was that Filip Mesar had to leave the game with a lower-body injury shortly before Xhekaj’s goal. With five points in just as many games, Mesar had an excellent start to the season in the American League.
The comets were not spared either. Striker Fillip Engaras had to be taken off the ice on a stretcher about six minutes before the end of regular time after a serious fall on the boards. Rocket head coach Pascal Vincent told the media after the game that Engaras was conscious and would spend the night in hospital in Laval.
Roy ignores the noise
Joshua Roy took part in one game for the first time in a slight controversy and let his game speak for himself.
Roy, whose absence from an autograph session in Vaudreuil on October 20 caused a stir, scored his third goal of the season in the second period. Note that this absence would involve a contractual imbroglio, according to the presentation of the facts by Roy’s agent Olivier Fortier.
Roy has scored four points in five games of this season so far.
