Cayden Primeau appeared to be in pain toward the end of Monday morning’s skate for the Montreal Canadiens, which certainly gave his teammates cold sweats.
Brendan Gallagher in particular could have been blamed as it was he who pushed the American goalkeeper after a save. As TVA Sports journalist Renaud Lavoie noted, Primeau appeared to have injured his left leg and it took him a few seconds to struggle to get back up.

Fortunately, after banishing the pain, he was able to complete the exercises. Head coach Martin St-Louis, who had asked for intensity in training, came to him and Gallagher also apologized.
“Cayden did what he had to do after that,” Renaud Lavoie explained to Jean-Charles Lajoie on the show JiC. He spent another 20 minutes on the ice. He continued to do a good job as a goalie receiving pucks. Luckily more fear than harm because it would have been a difficult situation for him.”
Primeau regained his confidence in his last start with a great performance against the New York Islanders on Saturday. He made some important saves in a 4-3 penalty shootout defeat and looked much more solid than in his first appearance nine days earlier.
Remember, it’s Samuel Montembeault who will start between the posts for the Canadiens’ game on Tuesday against the New York Rangers at the Bell Centre.
