The Montreal Canadiens held a sober but successful ceremony for their home opener on Wednesday night at the Bell Centre.
The organization’s other hockey players then took turns marching to the sounds of Coldplay’s song Fix yourself played by an orchestra. The biggest ovations went to audience favorites Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki and Arber Xhekaj.

But perhaps it was Patrik Laine’s presentation on crutches that most captivated the Bell Center audience. The purple-clad Finn showed a small smile despite the injury that forced him into two to three months of inactivity.

Before this ceremony, the floor was given to actor and director Luc Picard, who spoke from the stands of the Bell Center. A video commemorating the organization’s rich history was also shown on the big screen. WATCH THE MAIN VIDEO.
The national anthem of Canada was performed by musicians from the Orchester Métropolitain under the direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin.
