The Canadian had an agreement for Trevor Zegras – Sports Addik

Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras’ name was often linked to the Canadian last year, and it seems that the Habs also had interest in the star player, as there was reportedly an agreement between the two teams.

According to Marco Normandin under Absolutely fanthe Canadian had reached a trade agreement during the draft that would have included defenseman Logan Mailloux and a late first-round pick (21st) in exchange for Zegras and a second-round pick. However, the Habs changed their minds at the last minute to reach an agreement and the transaction did not go through.

In short, we seemed to be looking to acquire a talented forward during the draft, and when the Canadian was able to select the Russian Ivan Demidov, the team had achieved its goal of a talented player. Zegras was no longer needed by Kent Hughes.

Had the Habs selected a defenseman at No. 5, we probably would have agreed to give up Mailloux in return. This is the logical conclusion to this issue that is important to both teams.
