Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield play for the cup … and dream of the playoffs

Just over a month before the Canadiens’ opening camp, Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield played for the… Presidents Cup. In the hallways of the prestigious Royal Montreal, where they are members, the two Habs stars pushed the little white ball for a good cause, the First Tee Foundation. Even though the Stanley Cup still seems a long way off, they believe a place in the playoffs is likely.

“That is our goal. “We all want to get there and make our way to the trophy,” said captain Suzuki after his narrow friendly victory over his teammate after three holes on Tuesday.

“Every year we have to climb this mountain and try to reach the top,” he continued. We have taken a step in the right direction and we need to keep moving forward. We have a group that is aging.”

It must be admitted that in the case of the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge, this mountain resembles Everest. Last year, it finished last in the Atlantic Division and second to last in the Eastern Conference.

The same thing

With an almost identical alignment to the last campaign, the path to the summit of Everest will be dangerous and slippery.

Kent Hughes recently signed a long-term contract with defender Kaiden Guhle and also signed defenders Arber Xhekaj and Justin Barron for two years.

“This is good news and very good for continuity,” Caufield and Suzuki reported in a monotone tone, saying they were excited about the future. But this excitement was not reflected in their nonverbal language.

“They are important young players in our lineup,” they continued. They have shown their value. It is good to have them under contract for a long time.

“Kirby [Dach] “Will be back too,” Suzuki added. We stay in our system and know Marty’s expectations [St-Louis]. We are on the same wavelength.”

A special day lies ahead of us

A huge golf fan, Suzuki has already asked his head coach Martin St-Louis to reserve a special day at Royal Montreal during Presidents Cup week, which takes place the week of September 24.

However, Switzerland will play four preparation games during this period, three of which will be played at the Bell Centre.

He doesn’t have to lobby because several members of the coaching staff are golf enthusiasts. With the best American and international players in town, a trip to Royal Montreal is just the ticket.

“It’s not every day that a big tournament takes place here. “We have a great opportunity and we have to take advantage of it,” said the captain. It will be an exciting tournament.”
