May 6, 2024 – Defense News
This year’s Mental Health Week takes place from May 6-12 and has the theme “Healing Through Compassion” and inspires us to continue to create a culture of understanding and acceptance that supports us Well-being From all.
Compassion is said to be a skill we can learn to develop. It can repair relationships, promote emotional intelligence, and improve mental health. It’s not just a way for us to help others; it’s also a way for us to show compassion toward ourselves. Remember to prioritize self-care and get help when you need it, whether that’s by reaching out to a friend or seeking professional support.
As you reflect on the role compassion plays in mental health and wellbeing this Mental Health Week, we also encourage you to explore the resources and support services available to you as a member of the Defence team. There are many useful services available to you through the Employee Assistance Program and the Canadian Forces Member Assistance Program.
Remember what follows: Achieving wellbeing is not an individual journey, but a collective effort based on kindness, support and understanding. Together, we can continue to foster a workplace culture that allows all people to feel valued and supported and to take the necessary steps to improve their mental health and wellbeing. Well-being a priority.
