The Swiss claimed him on waivers in October 2022, and he was able to prove himself in the National League with Sainte-Flanelle. The Ontario native played 139 games and collected 28 points in two seasons for the Habs.
The Canadian decided to part ways with Kovacevic last June and received a fourth-round pick from the Devils in the 2024 draft.
“I want to add a more physical dimension to my game. I’ve talked about that with the staff in Montreal,” Kovacevic said. “The two aspects I focus on and put all my energy into are good defense and making it difficult to play against. I think I’ve made progress in both areas.”
“I’m not a finished product yet. I will continue to improve and progress,” he added.
However, it will not be easy to secure a starting spot for the Devils. Kovacevic, a right-hander, will compete with four other skaters: Dougie Hamilton, Brett Pesce, Simon Nemec and Nick DeSimone.
