PK Subban wants the next Stanley Cup won by a Canadian team to be the Montreal Canadiens.

Let’s hope the next Canadian Cup comes back to Montreal,” the former Habs defender, who is now retired, explained in an interview with Tony Marinaro.

The interview aired on Sunday but was recorded shortly before the draft. Subban also said he is positive about CH’s future with a head coach like Martin St-Louis, who he knows well.

“I know ‘Marty’ personally,” Subban said. I’ve played with some of his close friends. I have a lot of respect for him. I know Steven Stamkos, who always spoke highly of St. Louis and was grateful for the influence he had on his career as a mentor.

“As soon as the Canadiens hired St-Louis, I was excited about the move. I knew he would have an impact on the development of Cole Caufield, Nick Suzuki and other young players.

Subban also recently had the opportunity to work with Caufield.

“I was with him in Detroit yesterday,” Subban said as the interview was recorded. He seems to be in very good shape and ready for next season.”

The wearer of the number 76 in the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge can’t wait to see how the team that selected him emerges from the rebuild.

“I want Montreal to take a step forward [en anglais, “turn the corner”]. Cole and Suzuki are the future there. These guys are real, there’s no doubt about it.”
