Air Canada passengers can now watch movies or TV shows on their individual screens as soon as they board their aircraft. Previously, the entertainment system was only functional after takeoff and until the aircraft was approaching for landing.
After receiving approval from the Canadian government, the airline has expanded access to the in-flight entertainment system from boarding to disembarkation.
iPod only allowed in flight
However, this measure does not apply to iPods and other personal entertainment devices, as Transport Canada guidelines dictate that their use is only permitted when the aircraft is in flight and the captain has given permission. Passengers must be able to hear announcements from pilots or flight attendants broadcast over the aircraft’s entertainment system.
The service has been available since the beginning of April. Air Canada’s entertainment system offers access to a selection of current films (e.g. The lousy millionaire, milk, The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttonetc.), several hundred hours of television programs and around a hundred CDs for those who prefer to listen to music.
Each passenger has an individual screen embedded in the back of the seat in front of them. The program, which is renewed every month, can be viewed on the magazine’s website on the wayat the address www.enroute.aircanada.com/en/entertainment.
