MONTREAL – In addition to his athletic achievements, Jordan Harris is known for his warm personality and community involvement.
His commitment was also highlighted on June 2 during the Cummings Jewish Center Foundation for Seniors’ 20th annual Sports Celebrity Luncheon, when the 23-year-old guard was honored with the title of Sports Personality of the Year.
Several other athletes were on hand for the event, including Canadian captain Nick Suzuki, who supported his teammate.
“It was very special to present Jordan Harris with the Athlete of the Year award,” said Cathy Simons, executive director of the foundation. “As of March 2024, he was the only Black Jewish player in the NHL. Harris is also a member of the NHL Players’ Coalition for Inclusion, which works to make the sport more diverse.”
In its mission, the Cummings Center Foundation specifically aims to create an open and diverse space for the members of its community.
Former Canadiens forward Georges Laraque is the winner of this year’s humanitarian award.
The more than $400,000 raised at the annual Sports Celebrity Breakfast will enable the Cummings Center to provide critical social services to help seniors in crisis. To learn more about the Cummings Center and the annual Sports Celebrity Luncheon, Click here.
