Montreal Canadiens general manager Kent Hughes gave the team’s fans a treat on Tuesday by offering goalie Connor Hughes, who has played in Switzerland for several years, a one-year contract.
The 27-year-old Ontario native’s agreement with CH consists of two parts. He was never drafted into the National League and played junior hockey in the CCHL in his home province.

Hughes made his professional debut with this stint in Switzerland in 2017-2018. He joined the National League in 2020-2021 and had his best season with Lausanne HC this year.
Hughes went 10-6-1 in 19 games, adding two shutouts, and posted an excellent 1.73 goals-against average and an equally good .940 save percentage.
Thanks to the performance of its goalie, who continued with a GAA of 1.91 and a save percentage of .933, Lausanne made it to the playoff final.
The Canadian now represents Switzerland on the international stage.
