(Windsor) Quebec’s Nathan Zsombor-Murray won the 10-meter platform final after a close battle with Benjamin Tessier at the Canadian vaulting trials on Sunday in Windsor.
Margo Erlam of Alberta won the three-meter springboard competition.
Zsombor-Murray shined in his first two jumps, earning him scores of 94.40 and 99.90. After a perfect penultimate jump from Tessier for 102 points, Zsombor-Murray had the final say.
He achieved a total of 776.95 points and was ahead of Tessier with 734.98 points. The bronze medal went to Geoffrey Vavitsas (587.80).
“I’m happy to be able to train with Benjamin, he’s really talented and always pushes me to surpass myself,” said Zsombor-Murray. I had to do my best today because qualifying and the final weren’t easy. »
Like Erlam, Zsombor-Murray has now met all the criteria set by Plongeon Canada in the Olympic qualification process for the Paris Games, as his teammate Rylan Wiens had already done at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar.
This was my second Olympic competition and the experience helped me a lot. I did my best to stay calm. Although I looked relaxed, I was extremely nervous. I think I did a good job of staying calm and doing what I had to do.

Previously, Erlam finished the three-meter final with a double and half backflip in pike position, which earned him 78.00 points and increased his total score to 512.85.
Pamela Ware was second with 497.88 points. Amélie-Laura Jasmin has collected 464.15 points and is in third place.
“It was a stressful day, maybe the most stressful day of my life,” said Erlam. I never thought this could happen [de gagner l’or]. I always do my best, but it’s amazing when it really happens and not just in your wishes and dreams. »
In addition to Wiens, Zsombor-Murray and Erlam, the names of Caeli McKay and Kate Miller will also be submitted to the Canadian Olympic Committee to be part of the team in Paris.
