Former Montreal Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin, who was frequently criticized during his reign for insensitivity toward the Elders, apparently found the presence of Jean Béliveau and Guy Lafleur in the team's entourage troubling.
Former Tricolore defender Gilbert Delorme told BPM Sports on Friday.
“Mr. Béliveau used to go through the players' locker room to get to the Salon des Anciens, Delorme explained. Bergevin, it bothered him. He said to the security guard: “Mr. Béliveau, I don't want him to come here anymore because “It bothers the players.” Flower was using the players' parking lot. And that bothered Mr. Bergevin.”
Comments from Serge Savard in August 2022 confirm the statements reported by Delorme.
On the sidelines of a charity event at the Le Mirage golf club, Savard skinned Bergevin.
“The old guys, we had a difficult time with Marc Bergevin,” explained the former star defenseman and GM of the Canadiens. He didn't want to see anyone in the players' room. Even to get to the Salon des Anciens you had to take a detour through the press room.”
