(Toronto) A new study commissioned by Tennis Canada shows the sport has reached participation levels close to pre-pandemic levels.
According to the survey, almost 5 million Canadians played tennis last year and participation among young people aged 6 to 17 increased by 11%.
This study was conducted by YouGov Canada between October 12 and October 23, 2023 among 1,493 Canadians over the age of 12. It was conducted online in English and French.
According to this study, tennis ranks fourth among the most popular sports in the country and fifth in terms of number of participants.
Young Canadians' interest in tennis increased by 10% between 2022 and 2023.
25 per cent of Canadians under 12 played tennis last year and even more said they would like to do so again in the next 12 months.
Among Canadians aged 12 and over, 31% said they would definitely or probably play tennis in 2024, the highest rate since 2019.
Parents are also interested in the sport: 30% are preparing to enroll their children in a tennis program in 2024, a 23% increase from 2022.
