Mexico’s Gaby Lopez couldn’t have hoped for a better day to get her best round of her career, her 63 (-8) card, and claim the win at Sunday’s LPGA Dana Open in Sylvania, Ohio.
The 28-year-old athlete, who started the final round with a four-stroke lead, shot clean with eight birdies. She initially held off three in her first half of the course before following five in the second half, including three in a row, to complete her day of 16th-18th pennants. Lopez completed the mandatory 72 pennants with a total of 266 (-18).
She beat American Megan Khang in one fell swoop. The latter also had her sights set on the title, cutting seven shots at par 71 in her last 18 holes.
For her part, Canada’s Brooke M. Henderson fell back two places on the final lap despite saving two shots from par. Her total score of 271 (-12), six strokes behind the winner, still allows her to tied for 13th place.
For her part, Quebecer Maude-Aimée Leblanc played her best round of the tournament, hitting the white object 69 (-2) times. With that, she finished a cumulative score of 282 (-2), far from the winner, in tied 65th place.
Finally, the Maple Leaf’s third survivor, Maddie Szeryk, could not finish higher than 72nd place, finishing the tournament with a total of 285 (+1).
