Second period | Bruins 1 – Canadiens 0

(Montreal) Pavel Zacha scored just 36 seconds into the game and the Boston Bruins led the Montreal Canadiens 1-0 after one period on Saturday night at the Bell Centre.

Zacha scored his fifth goal of the season by blocking a shot from Charlie McAvoy.

The Canadian had several opportunities to react quickly, but often missed the target.

For his part, Brendan Gallagher hit the post after a throw from Sean Monahan during a two-on-one attack just before half-time.

With less than four minutes left in the first period, Monahan also hit the post, shortly after Bruins forward Jake DeBrusk also hit the post at the other end of the ice.

Jeremy Swayman saved each of the Canadian’s six shots in the first 20 minutes of the game, while Samuel Montembeault made five saves.

Forward Rafaël Harvey-Pinard was back in the Canadiens’ lineup after missing three games with a lower-body injury. Joel Armia gave in to him.

The Canadian will play again on Sunday evening when the Vancouver Canucks visit the Bell Centre.
