Quebec native Nicolas Aubé-Kubel, recalled later in the day by the Washington Capitals, scored a goal and provided an assist in his team’s 4-2 win over the Devils on Friday night in New Jersey.
The 27-year-old forward was promoted to the National Hockey League (NHL) due to Anthony Mantha’s injury and was present from the first moments of the game. See the purpose above.
A little less than 10 minutes before the end of the first period, Aubé-Kubel deceived Vitek Vanecek with a powerful one-timer. Fifteen seconds later, he passed the puck to Beck Malenstyn and he made the New Jersey goalie look bad.
After this success, Vanecek was also replaced by Akira Schmid for the “Caps”. The Devils’ No. 1 team allowed two goals on just five shots.
To return to Aubé-Kubel: It was his first game of the season in the Bettman circuit. It was also the ninth NHL game in which he recorded at least two points with a .223e Part.
The Capitals’ other two goals were scored by Evgeny Kuznetsov. Timo Meier and Dawson Mercer were the losers. Both goals came in the third period, but Kuznetsov’s second goal – in an abandoned cage – ended the Devils’ hopes of a comeback.
The Maple Leafs put out the flames
The Toronto Maple Leafs ended the Calgary Flames’ short winning streak with a 5-4 victory in a shootout Friday night at Scotiabank Arena.
The Alberta club had a terrible start to the season. However, head coach Ryan Huska’s team managed to stay afloat with wins in the last two duels.
Despite the loss to the Leafs, the Flames continued to show their willingness to fight. They scored three goals in a row to force overtime.
Calgary then dominated in overtime, but found themselves short on goaltender Joseph Woll. The latter particularly frustrated Andrew Mangiapane and Elias Lindholm, who had excellent scoring opportunities in three-on-three situations.
In the shootout, Woll made four saves on five shots. The Maple Leafs were able to triumph thanks to the success of Mitch Marner and Max Domi.

During regular time, AJ Greer, Martin Pospisil, Nikita Zadorov and Connor Zary scored in the Flames camp. William Nylander (twice), Calle Järnkrok and John Tavares gave answers to the audience favorites.
Nylander extended his streak of games with at least one point at the start of the year to 14. In this incredible streak, he collected nine goals and 12 assists for 21 points.
The Maple Leafs and Flames will return to action this Saturday. The former will receive a visit from the Vancouver Canucks, while the latter will be in Ottawa to face the Senators.
Three times in a row for the Panthers
In Florida, the Panthers earned their third straight victory by defeating the Carolina Hurricanes 5-2.
Matthew Tkachuk, Carter Verhaeghe and Aleksander Barkov each had a goal and an assist, while goalkeeper Sergei Bobrovsky made 28 saves.
The Panthers’ other scorers were Sam Reinhart and Kevin Stenlund (empty net), while the Canes’ response was the work of Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Sebastian Aho.
It was the Montreal Canadiens’ sixth win of the season for the first pick (third overall) in the 2018 draft. After just 14 games, he is now 10 goals away from tying his highest number of goals in a single season in the NHL, played in 2024-2024.
