Kyrou gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead 1:24 into the first half when he darted into the slot and took a pass from Schenn from the left corner after Schenn missed a golden chance on an escape attempt.

“Here’s another player who had stats… He had what, two or three points before the game tonight? Schenn pointed out. He had breakaways and two-on-ones, occasions where he didn’t score. He is a player who usually takes advantage of these opportunities. More importantly, I think his work habits are now where they need to be. “I was just happy to draw the game,” Slafkovsky said. I just tried to play the way I can.

“I had more shots on goal tonight (four). We have good players. We try to create things. We will continue to build on this. »

Thomas scored his third goal in as many games at 16:37 to give the Blues a 2-1 lead after receiving a pass from Justin Faulk as he raced past.

Saad extended the home team’s lead to 3-1 at 13:03 of the second period after a two-on-one with Kyrou. This fed Saad so he could get a shot on the receiving end.

Gallagher cut the lead to 3-2 at 14:48 after Sean Monahan intercepted the puck behind the Blues net and hit it to Gallagher at the top of the slot.

Alexey Toropchenko’s shorthanded goal at 2:50 of the third period, scored on a breakaway, gave St. Louis a 4-2 lead.

“It was an important goal,” said Blues coach Craig Berube. Our penalty shootout allowed a goal but I thought we were outstanding and our reaction was hugely important. It was a good game [Pavel Buchnevich] and “Torpo” finished well. It was certainly a big goal. »

Schenn scored his first goal of the season at 5:53 to make the score 5-2, redirecting a relay shot that Kyrou had timed well and synchronized by getting himself into the gap with the puck.

“It’s always good to be the first to score and help with the production,” Schenn said. Everyone in the dressing room wants to perform and contribute and I thought we were good tonight as a trio (with Saad and Kyrou) and we were good as a team too.

“Throughout the weekend we really focused on playing a different style of hockey, that is, clearing the puck and directing it towards the opponent’s goal line while also looking to wear down the opposing team. We were struggling to score goals so something had to change and it was about making a firm commitment. Hockey is a difficult sport. If the boys are willing to commit, we will score goals. »

Kasperi Kapanen added an unanswered goal at 4 p.m. to make the score 6-2.

Suzuki, stationed in front of the net, deflected Cole Caufield’s shot from the blue line at 18:32 to complete the score.
