Mélanie Joly confirms the death of a Canadian in Ukraine

Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly confirmed the death of a Canadian in Ukraine on Sunday.

The NGO Road to Relief, for which the killed Canadian worked, says that the vehicle carrying the aid workers was hit by a projectile.

The attack occurred in eastern Ukraine, in Hasiv Yar, with a Spanish citizen also killed, according to Madrid.

In an interview on LCN, Mélanie Joly confirms that the Canadian Embassy in Kiev is taking steps for the family of the Canadian who lost his life.

“I can confirm that a Canadian has died in Ukraine […] We are also in contact with the local authorities in the region in Ukraine who have been providing assistance to the contingent of people who were in the region, and the Canadian in question was part of that humanitarian contingent there,” she regrets.

“We will shed light on the situation to better understand the situation and offer more explanations to the family.”
