Retirement for Christine Sinclair?

The best goalscorer of all time, Christine Sinclair, published a fascinating video on the Instagram platform on Thursday.

We see a pair of football boots hanging on a goalpost, followed by a maple leaf, his number 12 and his signature. Everything quickly agitated Internet users on social networks, who wondered if the star of the Canadian team had thus announced his retirement.

The day before, national team coach Bev Priestman would not confirm to reporters Sinclair’s presence at the two friendlies scheduled for later in October, although the 40-year-old British Columbian was available.

After a difficult World Cup this summer, the captain did not want to move forward with her future.

In 327 games with Canada, Sinclair scored 190 goals, a record for both men and women.

Over the course of her long career, she also helped the Maple Leaf to bronze at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympics before reaching the top of the podium in Tokyo in 2021.

Present in Montreal?

Will soccer fans have the chance to see Sinclair one possible final time, on Saturday October 28th at Saputo Stadium in Montreal or three days later in Halifax against the Brazilians?

Quebecers Mélissa Dagenais, Lysianne Proulx, Gabrielle Carle, Vanessa Gilles, Bianca St-Georges, Marie-Yasmine Alidou and Évelyne Viens will be members of the Canadian team.
