Temporary closure of a dependent accommodation facility in Centre-du-Québec

Maison Eureka is “forced” to temporarily close its Saint-Guillaume service point in Centre-du-Québec. The management and board of this dependent accommodation facility regret the “inaction” of the Legault government and the Integrated Health and Social Services Center of Mauricie-et-du-Centre-du-Québec (CIUSSS MCQ) to avoid this situation.

The organization, which also operates a center in Shawinigan, will relocate all residents undergoing therapy there. However, this significantly limits access to services for people waiting for treatment, with admissions available only in Shawinigan for the next three months., we point out in a press release. A total of 44 beds are affected by this closure.

The reason for this decision to temporarily close the resource is a labor issue. Maison Eureka says it’s in theinability [d’]Hire workers with the skills required to perform the job.

The General Director, France Bouffard, confirms that the list of diplomas is included in the regulation on the certification of private and shared accommodation offering dependent accommodation outdated and that a revision imposes itself.

I can’t even hire someone who has a bachelor’s degree in sociology and 15 years of experience in dependency in a CIUSSS because his diploma is not recognized in the list of diplomas, while other ministries, such as the Ministry of Public Security, do not recognize him have already planned for this and recognize advance work that is based on many years of experience and years of studyillustrates Ms. Bouffard.

We call on the government to quickly correct this list so that we can make the adjustments necessary for the survival of our centers.

Attractiveness is also a challenge for Maison Eureka, which faces this challenge in the same graduate pool as Drummondville, Sorel, Saint-Hyacinthe. Several measures were taken to attract graduates. They are very excited to come to us, but unfortunately they often don’t have the right diploma in their pocketsstates the Director General.

She points out that she has raised this issue several times in the past year with regional health authorities and the Ministry of Health and Social Affairs. In particular, an exemption was requested last December, but was reportedly rejected CIUSSS MCQ.

The response of the CIUSSS

The CIUSSS replies that it is obliged to enforce the ministerial regulations on certification. This regulation must be applied by all certified resources throughout Quebec in order to respect the standards of services offered to the population. This information was clearly explained to the management of the resourcementions the organization in writing.

This decision to temporarily close the Saint-Guillaume Resource is regrettable and we have ensured that affected people continue to receive services at the Shawinigan Resource.

France Bouffard therefore turns to the Minister responsible for Social Services, Lionel Carmant, with the aim of making the necessary changes to the list of diplomas.
