On Canada Day, many federal ministers celebrate the country in all its facets.

“Today we celebrate the country we love and the people we share it with. More than 38 million people live in Canada: Canadians living in cities big and small; who are part of the aborigines; or who have been here for weeks, months, years or generations,” Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement.

Mr. Trudeau also takes the opportunity to recall the diversity of the country. “Regardless of our beliefs, origins, skin color, language or sexual orientation, we are all equal in this great country,” he added.

Diversity is Canada’s greatest strength, say Justin Trudeau and Sean Fraser, Minister for Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.

“From the dawn of Canadian history, newcomers have been an integral part of our communities. They fuel our economy by providing essential skills in key sectors, helping fuel the recovery from the pandemic by starting new businesses, and supporting those in need by volunteering in their communities. More than ever, they are helping us build a more diverse, inclusive and prosperous Canada,” said Mr. Fraser.

In the same spirit, Canadian Heritage Minister Pablo Rodriguez wished Canadians a Happy National Day.

“Where we come together is our shared values ​​and the dynamics of our linguistic, ethnic, cultural and regional diversity that make Canada an inclusive and cosmopolitan country,” he said.

After two years of the pandemic, Ministers, accompanied by their Chair, are pleased not only to be able to celebrate Canada Day in person again, but also to welcome new Canadians who will take the Citizenship Oath.

“Let’s use this day to have a good time together. Let’s take care of our planet as we are taught by indigenous peoples and take another step towards reconciliation. Let us reaffirm our commitment to justice, inclusion and mutual respect,” Minister Rodriguez concluded.
