From Superman to… SuperMack! – Sports VAT

He is not from Krypton but from Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Alouettes sadly lost on Saturday but Austin Mack took the opportunity to reiterate the opinion of those who believe he is the best pass receiver in the Canadian Football League right now.

Very few CFL players would have actually gotten the baton that gave him the touchdown during the game against the BC Lions at Percival-Molson Stadium. By making himself look like Superman, he almost had an equally spectacular glide at the start of the meeting.

“Cody [Fajardo] “I threw the ball well after me, I was able to keep my balance, I put my knees on the ground and the rest is history,” Mack described his excellent touch of the ball, but after 34:25 he didn’t have a head to turn anything to celebrate loss. I’m doing everything I can to help the team, but we need to do better, myself included, as we get closer to the pay zone.

At the head of the CFL

Overall, SuperMack finished Saturday’s game with seven balls and 143 yards through the air, even as the Lions defense doubled most balls.

After the games presented over that long Labor Day weekend, the 26-year-old American still dominates the CFL’s wide receivers, now with 971 yards on the clock after 11 games. He also had four touchdowns.

In addition to serving as a target for Fajardo, Mack started his Saturday night by tricking a surprise Tyler Snead with a superb cigar that went 25 yards.

Almost 1000 meters

Barring disaster, Mack will cross the 1,000-yard plateau next Saturday in Toronto against the Argonauts when he returns in his 12th gamee Game only in the CFL.

Obviously, the Alouettes’ record for most yards gained in a season, 1914, seems elusive. It’s owned by Hal Patterson, who accomplished that feat in just 14 games in 1956. But where will Mack stop?

More recently, last year, Eugene Lewis was considered one of the best pass receivers in the league, rushing for 1,303 yards in 17 games with the Alouettes. Mack could easily surpass that mark if he stays healthy.

A select club

Only four Alouettes players have ever completed a season with more than 1,500 receiving yards. Along with Patterson there’s Jeremaine Copeland and Ben Cahoon, both in 2003, and then Jamel Richardson in 2011. Copeland, Cahoon and Richardson all had exploited quarterback Anthony Calvillo. Patterson, meanwhile, relied on Sam Etcheverry.

Mack could do anything through Fajardo and Caleb Evans… This suggests that SuperMack is one of the most talented pass receivers in Alouettes history! Perhaps. Ben Cahoon still has nine seasons with 1,000 yards or more. Only time will tell which number 81 the Alouettes have. Unless he returns to the NFL at some point, Mack played with the New York Giants for the 2020 season. Nothing seems impossible for the young man from Fort Wayne.

Most yards gained by a wide receiver in Alouettes history in a single season:

1914 – Hal Patterson – in 1956

1777 – Jamel Richardson – in 2011

1757 – Jeremaine Copeland – in 2003

1561 – Ben Cahoon – in 2003
