At the beginning of the week, a heat wave spreads across the region. Monday through Wednesday will be particularly hot as Environment Canada is forecasting “temperatures in excess of 30 degrees Celsius and Humidex readings between 36 and 42.”
The Integrated University Center for Health and Social Services Mauricie-et-du-Centre-du-Québec (CIUSSS MCQ) reminds the population of the usual measures to be applied in such circumstances.
First, it’s important to stay well hydrated and cool by spending a few hours a day in air-conditioned or cooler places. Then the CIUSSS MCQ recommends reducing physical exertion outdoors, especially between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Headaches, the appearance of pimples on the skin, signs of dehydration, fatigue and nausea are examples of symptoms to look out for in hot weather.
The risks are also greater for small children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with chronic diseases.
The health department also points out that if you have any questions about your health, you can call Info-Santé 811 or consult a doctor.
