Previously, she served as the financial institution’s Chief Operating Officer from 2010 to 2015. In this role, she was responsible for technology, operations, procurement, property administration and change management.
Since leaving HSBC, she has served on the bank’s board of directors and has joined the boards of TELUS International, Canfor, DRI and Belkorp.
Originally from Vancouver, Sandra Stuart has also served on the Faculty Advisory Board of the Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia and the Business Council of Canada, and served as Governor of the Business Council of BC.
She received the 2019 Catalyst Canada Honorary Award for her commitment to diversity and inclusion and was recognized by the Association of Women in Finance for excellence in the private sector. The Women’s Executive Network gave her the inaugural Deloitte Inclusion Vanguard Award in 2016 and she was named one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women (Top 100) in 2014. She was named one of Vancouver Magazine’s Power 50 and recognized as one of the Most Influential Women in British Columbia by BC Business Magazine.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Simon Fraser University and has completed several executive courses at Harvard Business School.

The Board of Directors of Scotiabank also welcomes Michael Medline, President and CEO of Empire Company Limited and Sobeys. Former President of Canadian Tire from 2013 to 2016, he has also worked for the Ontario Securities Commission, McCarthy Tétrault, PepsiCo Canada and Abitibi-Consolidated.
