The ban on open fire has been lifted in several areas

The government lifts the ban on forest access on public land in most sectors in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

The ban on open fires in or near the forest has also been changed accordingly.

This decision, made jointly with the Society for the Protection of Forests from Fires, will apply from Saturday morning.

This decision was made together with the Society for the Protection of Forests from Fires [SOPFEU] This is due in particular to the changed weather conditions, the operational realities on the territory and the firefighting interventions carried out by SOPFEUshows SOPFEU in a press release.

The changes mainly affect the Abitibi-Témiscamingue, Nord-du-Québec, Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean and Côte-Nord regions.

The Ministry reminds you that during this period, when major fires are raging in certain areas of Quebec, extreme caution should be exercised when traveling in the forest.

According to SOPFEU, the fire in Normétal is now under control. Since June 1st, more than 11,400 hectares of forest have been destroyed in this sector in Abitibi-Ouest.
