(Jakarta) Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had 27 points as Canada easily defeated Latvia 101-75 at Tuesday’s FIBA Basketball World Cup.
Canada trailed 23-13 after a quarter and led by just a point at halftime before proving dominant.
Gilgeous-Alexander also had six rebounds, six assists and two steals.
RJ Barrett had 22 points and five rebounds.
Kelly Olynyk added 15 points, one more than Nickeil Alexander-Walker – Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s cousin.
Andrejs Grazulis scored 16 points for the Latvians.
The Canadians finished the group stage with a 3-0 record and prevailed with an average of 37 points.
Canada and Latvia (2-1) will be part of a new group with the top two clubs in Group C, whose games end on Wednesday.
Defending champions Spain will be in this group. Ivory Coast and Brazil fight for the other place.
Elsewhere in the tournament, the Dominicans took the next step, defeating the Angolans 75-67.
Germany in turn corrected Finland 101-75.
The USA, Lithuania and Montenegro also take part in the second round.
Nations in action on Wednesday include Spain, the United States and Slovenia.
