The first thing to do is speed up the construction of the houses. It takes too long to get a building permit. We built fewer homes this year than we did in 1972, 50 years ago, when Canada’s population was half what it is today.
The Poilievre government insists that large municipalities increase the number of building permits by 15% a year or lose their infrastructure grants. We will give large rewards to municipalities that manage to increase building permits by more than 15%.
I will also introduce a red seal; A test that allows immigrants to demonstrate their skills in professions such as nurses and doctors so they can dedicate themselves to serving our population.
On the issue of immigration, the current government also achieved the goal of 4.4% French-speaking immigration outside of Quebec last year. What do you think would be the ideal goal to increase the proportion of francophone speakers outside of Quebec?
It needs to be increased. We will encourage these immigrants to live in French-speaking communities across the country, which will allow these populations to be preserved. Unfortunately, despite its promises, the Trudeau government failed to do so.
Nonetheless, the current government has met the target despite being years behind schedule. To make up the deficit, the Federation of Francophone and Acadian Communities (FCFA) has proposed a progressive target of 12% by 2024. Do you think that’s too much?
NO. But before committing to a character, I need to make sure I can reach them first! We have seen a government making all sorts of promises that are very good in intention, but we must be able to do it! I don’t want to be another politician who says something to get elected but doesn’t get the results I want.
