The visit of Economy Minister Christopher Skeete to Lebel-sur-Quévillon seems to have reassured Mayor Guy Lafrenière.
He believes the minister has a grasp of the reality of the Quévillonnais, where most of them have been unable to work for part of the summer due to the forest fires and the two evacuations.
Mr. Lafrenière is asking Quebec for financial support for his city’s merchants, but in the form of grants rather than loans.
What we are asking, and he (Minister Skeete) seems very frank, is that we reapply for immediate needs credit as planned. Then him [le gouvernement] I will examine what deficits and credits this trade ran during this period. At that point there would be a credit forgiveness
he explains.
Guy Lafrenière asks Quebec to intervene quickly. He emphasizes that retailers and companies cannot wait forever.
I am not afraid because the Prime Minister himself spoke to us about the credit waiver during his visit to Lebel-sur-Quévillon. Mr. Skeete tells us the same thing. The CAQ is still quite strong in power, so I don’t see what could change that. But until it’s officially announced, it’s not official
he says.
