Blue Jays save face in Seattle

This time, the Toronto Blue Jays managed to maintain their lead and defeat the Seattle Mariners at T-Mobile Park on Sunday.

Canada’s only major league baseball club won 4-3, undefeated in the first two games of the series by the team least likely to come back and win.

It was a single by Santiago Espinal in the seventh inning that secured the win. Whit Merrifield was the one who put his foot on the plate.

Before that, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Brandon Belt threw the ball wide. Mariners first baseman Mike Ford also hit a home run that game.

Alek Manoah got the start in the Jays camp. The one whose season falls well short of expectations gave up all the points for the Seattle club, three strikes in a safe place and four walks in five and a third inning of work. He also passed six opponents in the mitten.

Victory went to Tim Mayza (2-1) as Jordan Romano made his 27th save of 2023.

Before the game, the Blue Jays demoted substitute Nate Pearson to AAA rating. That came less than 24 hours after he conceded four runs in the third inning against the Mariners.

The Jays’ decision is also explained by the need to make room for Genesis Cabrera in their 26-man roster. The Queen City Club acquired the left-handed reliever from the St. Louis Cardinals last Friday.

At Target Field, Quebec’s Édouard Julien and his Minnesota Twins teammates made a late comeback, winning 5-4 in the 12th inning against the Chicago White Sox.

The crowd favorite won his three-game streak against rival Illinois.

In tonight’s match, Julien had a hit and a walk in six plate appearances. He was also beaten three times.

In the White Sox, Eloy Jimenez and Zach Remillard had solo home runs. The second also drove a run with a single that allowed Oscar Colas to step on the plate.

The visitors thought they had done enough, but the Twins equalized at the end of the ninth period. Willi Castro, Carlos Correa and Alex Kirilloff all teamed up to send this game into overtime.

The two teams traded a point in the 10th and it was ultimately a single from Ryan Jeffers that put an end to the debate in the 12th.

Victory went to Emilio Pagan’s tally (5-1), while defeat went to Jesse Scholtens’ tally (1-3).
